Royal Jordanian warns about electronics prohibition on USA flights

Following instructions from the concerned USA departments, we kindly inform our dearest passengers departing to and arriving from the United States that carrying any electronic or electrical device on board the flight cabins is strictly prohibited.

Royal Jordanian Airlines is banning all electronic devices from flights to and from the United States, except for cellphones and medical devices.

The devices falling under the restriction include laptops, tablets, cameras, DVD players and electronic games. Abdulrahman H. Alfahad, who appears to be an executive at Saudia Airlines based on his other social media accounts, posted on a personal twitter account that a directive was given for passengers on flights originating from 13 countries.

It is unclear which airlines would fall under the ban.

United States authorities will no longer allow travelers from 13 African and Middle Eastern countries to bring computer and laptops into airplane cabins anymore, two news agencies have reported.

Donald Trump inside White House as intruder scales fence
The suspect, identified as Jonathan Tuan-Anh Tran, 26, had approached the exterior of the White House last Friday night. A federal law enforcement official said Tran has no prior criminal record and no history with the Secret Service.

In an emailed statement, David Lapan, acting deputy assistant secretary in the office of public affairs at Homeland Security said, "We have no comment on potential security precautions, but will provide an update as appropriate". Then, sometime this afternoon, Royal Jordanian deleted that tweet, further adding to the confusion.

The US Transportation Security Agency told airlines on Monday that they have 96 hours to comply with the ban, The Guardian reported.

The reason for the new measure is, apparently, safety, although that does not easily tally with the exclusion of cell phones from the list of banned items.

The airline serves New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, as well Montreal and Detroit.

In its tweet, Royal Jordanian referenced "instructions from the concerned US departments" but did not offer further details.
