Trump may bypass hardline conservatives on tax, White House says

US Republican Meadows: Tax plan does not have to be revenue neutral | Reuters

The Republican Party of "no" for Democrat Barack Obama's eight years is having a hard time getting to "yes" in the early Donald Trump era.

"If they're applauding, they shouldn't", Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), the head of the Freedom Caucus, said of the Democrats on ABC's "This Week".

The president said then he didn't feel betrayed by the conservative lawmakers who opposed the bill.

Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown of OH said that Democrats always wanted to see the health care law improved, but that Republicans revealed themselves Friday. He also said that the measure would include a middle class tax cut that he said might help to attract votes from moderate Democrats.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, the top House Republican tasked with tax reform, said over the weekend that the White House should start with proposals already in the House instead of crafting a separate bill.

"I have resigned from the House Freedom Caucus".

"We had no Democrat support", Trump said.

"I think there has been a lot of flexibility in terms of some of my contacts and conservatives in terms of not making it totally offset".

White House officials are signaling a renewed focus on job creation, taxes and the administration's push to win confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, a bright spot for the president.

When the effort collapsed, sparking a blame game between White House aides and congressional leaders, an unusually subdued Trump quickly vowed to move on. As Senator John McCain said Saturday, Republicans need Democrats to reform health care.

The former SC governor, who had been mentioned as a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2012, was alluding in the meeting to an extramarital affair that led to his resignation as chairman of the Republican Governor's Association in 2009 and his divorce a year later. And Democrats could abandon the effort if Republicans press too hard for the border wall or lard in too much extra money for the Pentagon, raising the specter of a shutdown showdown not far away. "I'm disappointed because we could have had [the bill pass]". President Donald Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan made a decision to pull the bill from the House floor on Friday after it became clear it was bound to fail.

Vettel said he had "great respect" for three-time champion Hamilton , which the British driver said was mutual. Raikkonen, in the second Ferrari, finished fourth this year.

On the other side of the GOP spectrum, moderate Rep. Charlie Dent, R-Pa., corroborated a New York Times report that Trump told him he was destroying the party by opposing the Republican bill.

"The irony is that the Freedom Caucus, which is very pro-life and against Planned Parenthood, allows P.P.to continue if they stop this plan!".

"It's more or less a warning shot that we are willing to talk to anyone".

"We've communicated very clearly what we'd like to see and have done", Meadows said.

"We will get there", he said Friday.

"Democrats are smiling in D.C. that the Freedom Caucus, with the help of Club For Growth and Heritage, have saved Planned Parenthood & Ocare!"

Democrats learned a valuable lesson last week as they watched Republicans sink their own health care bill. And I think the problem for Republicans is that this 17-day odyssey revealed three things at are not good for them. "Paul Ryan, who is considered such a great thinker, had no idea what the replacement should be", he said.

"If he changes, he could have a different presidency", Schumer said.

And in home after home, people were coming to rely on the knowledge that they would be able to get health care even if they have pre-existing conditions, could keep their young adult children on their plans, could count on maternity and mental health coverage and wouldn't face lifetime coverage caps should something catastrophic happen.

"So, tax reform and lowering taxes, you know, will create and generate more income", he said.

Ryan pledged the House would return to its campaign agenda, including legislation aimed at beefing up U.S.
