Comey sought to reveal Russian election meddling last summer

FBI Director James Comey wanted to write a New York Times op-ed revealing Russia's campaign to influence the USA presidential election back in the summer of 2016 - but then-President Obama stopped it, according to Newsweek. Comey would likely have tried to publish the op-ed in The New York Times, and it would have included much of the same information as the bombshell declassified intelligence report released January 6, which said Russian President Vladimir Putin tried to influence the presidential election, the source said.

Long before the Department of Homeland Security and officials with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence accused the Kremlin of meddling in the presidential election, Comey reportedly pitched the idea of penning an opinion piece about the Russian campaign during a July meeting at the White House.

Comey reportedly had a draft of an op-ed that he wanted to share with the public concerning the Russian interference and shared that information during a meeting with then-Secretary of State John Kerry, then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch and a few others.

FBI Director James Comey says the FBI doesn't consider how its decisions will affect politics.

The U.S. House and Senate have launched individual intelligence committees to explore possible ties between Russian officials and members of President Trump's campaign team. He had no trouble doing that when it came to Hillary Clinton.

Goodell has since made enemies out of Patriots fans after he doled out and confirmed harsh punishments against the team. We're happy we'll be celebrating our fifth banner. "And if he wanted to come, he's welcomed to come", Kraft said.

In the House Intelligence Committee, the chairman, Rep. Devin Nunes, abruptly cancelled Comey's private testimony on Monday, clarifying later that the director could not make the session. Who or what he is investigating and what he chooses to disclose have consumed political and media circles for months.

"In general we have not been adding to the director's comments regarding Russian Federation at the March 20 hearing", an Federal Bureau of Investigation spokesman said to the news outlet when asked about Comey's alleged planned op-ed last summer.

According to Newsweek, Comey had considered drafting an op-ed, and he presented the idea to top White House officials of the Obama administration last summer. "They did their usual - nothing". Months later, in October, the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence formally released a joint statement officially naming Russian Federation as the country behind the election hacks. Both sources spoke to Newsweek on the condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak to the press.

Comey declined to comment on specific policies, but said the government was always looking to improve its vetting system and that it is more hard to vet people coming from places where the United States hadn't established "robust" relationships.
