Miami Open: Konta secures career-best win over Wozniacki

Johanna Konta of Great Britain in action during the semifinals match against Venus Williams

Johanna Konta claimed the biggest title of her career as she beat Caroline Wozniacki 6-4 6-3 in the final of the Miami Open on Saturday.

"I think I've always had the belief of wanting to become a Grand Slam champion, wanting to become the best in the world", Konta said.

Games were won two-at-a-time by either player as momentum ebbed and flowed, but the pattern played in Konta's hands as it allowed her to take the opening set - saving two break points as she served out for the lead.

For Konta, the hardcourt star capitalized on her last chance on the surface as the clay and grass seasons approach.

Konta was just six years old when Williams first won this tournament 19 years ago and has cited the seven-time grand slam victor as one of her idols. "I'm looking forward to it, it is going to be a battle and I will try my best". With the set finely poised in the sixth game, Konta came through a hold after being forced to deuce for the first time in the set, running off the last four games to win her biggest career title.

"I think the fortunate position that I'm in is we have someone called Andy Murray who, bless him, has I think carried most of that weight on his shoulders", she said after her third straight win over Williams.

In a 2015 interview with Entrepreneur, Puzder explained his thinking behind the ads of old: "I like our ads". Carl Jr.) out of the office, and does away with all those hot girls eating burgers in their bikinis.

After her victory, Konta praised the crowd who had supported her during the matches.

Forget the clay though, it is all about consolidation of confidence for when we hit the grass, and when expectation will be at its highest, quite literally on home turf.

Wozniacki, in 2017 has already played two finals, lost in Doha and Dubai, against Karolina Pliskova and Elina Svitolina. "It was a good run".

World number 20 Strycova said: "I think it's not OK".

As Pliskova's first-serve percentage plummeted, Wozniacki stepped up her own game, winning 75 per cent of points on her own serve to wrap up what ultimately proved to be an easy win. "Wherever that gets me that's where it will get me, but hopefully the day I hang up my racquets I will be able to say that I really maximized my full ability and everything inside me". Now 25, the British hope racked up her third-straight win over the elder Williams sister to book that Wozniacki showdown.
