Derrick Rose Suffers Torn Meniscus, Out For The Season

Knicks-Nets

Those close to Rose expect him to be at full health two months after the surgery, which will be scheduled shortly.

The Knicks said on Twitter that a scan of Rose's left knee had revealed a "torn meniscus that will require an arthroscopy". He then tore the meniscus in his right knee in his first season back from surgery, costing him the final 72 games.

The original diagnosis was a sore knee, and Rose had missed three consecutive games - including Sunday against the Celtics.

The point guard has a long history of sabotaging knee injuries, but the timing of his latest could not be worse for his financial future. He expected to return to the court shortly.

Wall St little changed after GDP data; eyes on earnings
U.S. stocks remained unmoved in early trade, despite an upward revision to the growth rate at the end of 2016. Since the start of the year, the S&P 500 is up 5.7 per cent, its best quarterly performance since 2015.

While it won't affect the Knicks' season much - they're now 29-47 - the injury comes at a particularly bad time for Rose, who is apparently heading for free agency in the offseason. He has been mostly healthy during his lone season with the Knicks, averaging 18 points and 4.4 assists over 64 games.

Rose suffered the injury in Monday's game against the Pistons and was limping noticeably throughout much of the game.

It also caps a troubled first season in NY for the 2011 NBA MVP following his move from the Chicago Bulls past year. The Knicks sent the Bulls center Robin Lopez and guard Jerian Grant in the deal. "I'll be a free agent".
