Super Sindhu conquers Marin to win her maiden India Open title

While the left-handed Marin is known to be tricky to face owing to the unusual angles she creates, Sindhu was able to read her game with confidence. "I wasn't under any pressure either in this match or in the tournament", Sindhu said later.

India's Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is into her first final of her home Superseries event, after withstanding a late charge from Korea's Sung Ji Hyun. In the second game, Sindhu continued in the same vein to race to a 4-0 lead. The Korean tried to engage Sindhu in rallies but the Indian always produced a power-packed stroke to finish the rallies and kept her three-point lead till 19-16.

Sindhu gave her best performance yet to beat Marin 21-19, 21-16 in a 46 minute summit clash, securing her first India Open title. While she dominated the back court, she was also beating Marin to the net.

Marin conceded it was not her day. But she was humble in victory and credited her win to crowd support.

The 21-year old Indian now has 4-5 record against Marin.

Not taking anything away from Marin, though, Sindhu said, "Marin also played well".

The men's doubles crown was annexed by fourth seeded Indonesian pair of Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, who beat sixth seeds compatriots Ricky Karandasuwardi and Angga Pratama 21-11 21-15 in a contest that lasted exactly half-an-hour.
