Anti-allergy medicine EpiPen recall expands to US

EpiPen auto-injection epinephrine pens manufactured by Mylan NV pharmaceutical company for use by severe allergy sufferers are seen in Washi

The initial recall of the emergency allergy product didn't include the United States, but Mylan issued a new recall last night which not only includes EpiPens sold in the U.S., but also involves the children's version, known as EpiPen Jr.

Pfizer Canada issued a statement late Friday night saying it has made a decision to voluntarily recall two types of the epinephrine injection. None of therecalled lots include the authorized generic for EpiPen Auto-Injector, which is also manufactured by Meridian Medical Technologies.

The company said that some of devices may contain a defective part that prevents the injector from activating in the event of an allergic reaction.

A lot of EpiPens are being recalled by the Food and Drug Administration due to a possible defect that could cause the pen to fail to activate.

Amid accusations of price gouging, Mylan CEO Heather Bresch testified before Congress in September.

Donald Trump's former NSA will testify, but wants immunity
Both cases are, at their heart, about the scope of presidential authority. "We are very proud of our Democrats on the committee". The Democratic leader singled out Nunes for her criticism. "I've never seen behavior this freaky on the part of the chairman".

If you have one of the devices Health Canada encourages people to contact their pharmacy.

EpiPens work by shooting a needle full of adrenaline into your body, which can save your life in the case of an allergic reaction.

"The potential defect could make the device hard to activate in an emergency and have significant health consequences for a patient experiencing a life-threatening allergic reaction", Mylan said in a statement Friday.

Consumers should keep and use their EpiPen until they have a replacement.

In total, more than 100,000 products that could be affected were distributed across the country.
