Eldense coach arrested after 12-0 defeat, say Spanish police

A 12-0 thumping was enough for Spanish club Eldense to call it quits

Italian Filippo Di Pierro was "arrested and questioned" a police source told AFP on Tuesday (April 4), adding that the investigation is ongoing.

LaLiga president Javier Tebas confirmed the probe on Monday, with Vito di Pierro detained the following day.

The result, which was a joint record score for the Segunda B division, saw Eldense relegated with six matches left. Extremadura thrashed Portuense in 1993.

Di Pierro was in the process of having his head-coaching licence certified, according to reports in Spain.

"In the dressing room, I nearly came to blows with some of them, there were four implicated in it. I don't care what happens, but when I can, I will give the names of these players", Saad was quoted as saying. "Were opponents involved? I don't know, they did what they had to do - score goals".

"The police have all the information they need and I hope there is an exemplary sanction against them".

Ruiz also spoke to Cadena Ser and reportedly said: "In principle the orders came from above, from the coach". They were 8-0 down at HT and lost 12-0.

Credit Suisse launches internal investigation after offices searched in tax probe
The Dutch national tax administration said it suspects funds worth several million euro have been hidden from authorities. The U.K. tax authority is investigating " senior employees " at a global financial institution, it said in a statement.

"I know who [was involved] but I can not say at the moment... four players are involved", the Mauritanian striker told RAC-1. I knew something was going on. They told a teammate this game was fixed and if he wanted to play he should not score goals.

"Some of our players that finished the game crying are acting because they were the ones that fixed it".

"It's a very delicate situation but it's exclusively related to Eldense".

Seven coaches, 52 players employed and three presidents in only one season indicate that the club was in the throes of a downward spiral.

We certainly haven't heard the end of this.

"It seems right to me that it is followed up, as we must rid football of incidents like this, at the professional level, amateur level or whatever level.

Players who do not play and suddenly they put them in, then they remove players who are doing well".
