ABC faces backlash after presenter Natasha Exelby reportedly banned over 'daydream' blooper

ABC newsreader Natasha Exelby caught out not paying attention LIVE on air

Presenter Natasha Exelby's hilarious reaction when she realises the cameras are back on following a late night ABC News 24 story has gone viral.

However, when the package got over and cameras went back to Natasha, she was caught with her head down and caught fiddling with a pen.

In fairness to Exelby she regained her composure relatively quickly and was able to regain control of the situation.

Gaven Morris, director of ABC, told The Guardian: "Live television is a demanding art and slip-ups will happen - our presenters are humans, not robots".

Curiously, the statement also said Exelby's future on-air roles would be "subject to performance management".

Mr Morris added that ABC wanted her to continue working casual shifts and regretted that the incident had attracted such attention.

In the meantime, journalists have rallied around Exelby to reveal similar mistakes under the hashtag #PutYourBloopersOut.

Sad that Sindh is not a part of India: LK Advani
The PM reportedly offered prayers for the prosperity and harmony of her country, and for strong bilateral ties with India. Mamata's opposition to water share appears to be the biggest stumbling block to reaching an agreement on the Teesta River.

The clip sees a sports VT being played before the presenter signs off, and the 41-year-old is expected to continued with her report.

The presenter saw the amusing side: "Thank U all for ur generous support".

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten was among many who demanded she be given another chance.

But do I think Exelby should lose her presenting job over this? No.

Now, the internet at large and Exelby's fellow reporters are rushing to her defense. Not my finest hour, ' she wrote.

We've all been caught daydreaming in work at least once. "Myself and my mesmerising pen honourably salute you!" she said. Just like how we take a quick look into our phones in the middle of work, or indulge in a tête-à-tête with our colleagues, news anchors are no different.
