5 dead in Venezuela protests as movement gains steam

Student killed in Venezuela protests: prosecutors

Protests flared throughout the week, including in slums that have always been bulwarks of support for Venezuela's socialist leaders hours after a pro-government rally evolved into a violent demonstration against President Nicolas Maduro.

Dozens of people have been injured and more than 100 arrested over the past week in clashes in various cities, according to authorities.

Two students were also killed during demonstrations last week, the BBC reported. He was shot at a protest Tuesday in the central city of Barquisimeto.

In the western Lara state, two people, aged 13 and 36, were killed during the unrest, the state prosecutor's office said in a statement.

The assault against Maduro comes as both protests and repression are intensifying in Venezuela, to the point both actions are nearly non-stop now: permanent demonstrations by the opposition and continuing, heavy-handed law enforcement - and now government paid gangs known as "colectivos" against protestors.

"If they think they will scare us that way they are wrong".

"We can't accept a regime that is willing to sacrifice the lives of Venezuelans in order to perpetuate itself in power", he said in a video posted on his Twitter account.

As mentioned earlier, Koei Tecmo is also rolling a free update to the game on the same day as the paid DLC. It's quite possible that the release date for Nioh's DLC will be the same in the west as well.

State officials have tweeted images and videos of demonstrators vandalising public property and throwing rocks at police. Some radical members of the rally, their heads covered by hoods, clashed with police.

In some previous demonstrations, government groups have roughed up several opposition leaders and fired rubber bullets and a previously unseen reddish gas at crowds.

Venezuela's Ministry of Defense called on Almagro and the OAS Tuesday to condemn acts of violence, such as reports from Venezuela's Ombudsman that seven of its offices had been attacked in the anti-government protests. "I am not afraid".

National Assembly president and opposition deputy Julio Borges called for elections, saying that the people of San Felix and all Venezuelans "reject Maduro and repudiate his dictatorship". Small marches also took place in Ciudad Guayana, in the jungle and savannah state of Bolivar, where protesters scrawled "elections now!" on the street.

"Why was there no violence?" They also want an early presidential vote after authorities quashed a recall referendum against Maduro previous year.

The next major organised rallies called by opposition leaders are set for Wednesday next week.

That is expected to be the next big showdown in an increasingly fraught crisis that has raised global concerns for Venezuela's stability.

A spokesman for the State Department said on Monday that the US urges "demonstrators to express themselves non-violently and call [s] on government security forces to protect peaceful protest, not prevent it".
