Russian government releases photos of Oval Office meeting

Speculation has been rife that Trump fired Comey Tuesday because of the FBI's investigation into possible ties between Trump's campaign team and Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential election.

Critics of Comey's dismissal, however, argue that the president was really trying to clamp down on the FBI's investigation into the Trump campaign's ties to Russian Federation.

US President Donald Trump is seeking "mutually beneficial" and "pragmatic" relations with Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday after meeting the US leader in the White House.

Reporters were allowed in after and found Trump meeting with Henry Kissinger, who served as secretary of state under President Richard Nixon-a man to whom Trump has been gratuitously compared.

The meeting was originally scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the Arctic Council ministerial summit in Fairbanks, Alaska - where the two will be joined by the ministers of the Council's six other countries to discuss scientific and environmental issues.

Trump described his talks with Lavrov as "very, very good".

He also questioned why the firing was done in a seemingly "helter-skelter" fashion.

Jose Mourinho confirms Manchester United are giving up on the Premier League
Joao Castelo-Branco and Mark Ogden react to Arsenal's win over Man United, and the state of each club late in the season. Mourinho was rather more theatrical on the subject of his first competitive defeat against Wenger. "I left Highbury.

"Does the Comey firing cast a shadow over your talks", a reporter asked him.

He then waived his hand with a nod of his head, and walked away with a smiling Tillerson. The exchange was not included in the State Department's brief video snippet from the photo-op that it posted to Twitter.

During that trip, Mr Tillerson said relations with Russian Federation were at a low and needed to be rebuilt.

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin, referring to Comey's firing, said, "We had nothing to do with that".

USA intelligence agencies have asserted that Moscow meddled in the election to help Trump's chances of victory. "That's the USA president's independent decision, which has nothing to do and should have nothing to do with Russian Federation".

President Trump also raised Ukraine, and expressed his Administration's commitment to remain engaged in resolving the conflict and stressed Russia's responsibility to fully implement the Minsk agreements.

"This is nothing less than Nixonian", said Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., a longtime member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
