Trump May Trigger Countdown To NAFTA Renegotiation Next Week

Minister Francois Philippe Champagne

Robert Lighthizer threw his support behind President Donald Trump's America First trade agenda while being sworn in as US trade representative on Monday, becoming the final cabinet-level appointee to take office.

Lighthizer, a corporate lawyer and former deputy USA trade representative in the Reagan administration, took office yesterday (15 May) promising to help President Donald Trump "permanently" reverse what he described as America's "dangerous" trade policies.

President Trump was presented with a similar data point before he tacked away from a decision to "terminate" the North American Free Trade Agreement.

A U.S. Commerce Department spokesman said Ross and Guajardo discussed possible solutions and that they continue to work toward a negotiated settlement.

Officials would not be able to begin talks on NAFTA with Mexico and Canada until after the mandatory 90-day period of consultation with Congress.

Meanwhile, a woman says she was sexually assaulted in a bathroom during Game 4 of the Penguins-Capitals series in Pittsburgh. That kind of upgrade to their forwards shouldn't be ignored, as it's had a huge impact on their ability to roll four lines.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer also said Lighthizer will attend the May 20-21 meeting of trade ministers from the 21 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) countries in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The report also added the Trump administration may also move its attention towards the Seoul-Washington free trade agreement in the near future.

The Republican senator wants the Trump administration to revamp the agreement, not end it.

In its latest report, the Korea International Trade Association said Mexico's exports to the USA will drop significantly if Washington exits NAFTA or comes up with a higher tariff policy. "From manufacturing to agriculture, high-tech to financial services, Robert Lighthizer has distinguished himself as a tireless defender of America's workers and America's future, and now he'll be doing it for the United States of America", Pence said.
