Shadow Brokers says "would release new exploit for Windows 10"

Massive ransomware attack hits 99 countries

In a post on their blog, the hackers announced that they would be launching a monthly data dump service, comparing it to a "wine of the month club" for hackers.

Those same NSA officials, according to Tuesday's report, failed to communicate the severity of the vulnerability to the outside world.

The post explains Shadow Brokers main motivation in its activities as a competition of sorts, pitting itself against the NSA.

The Shadow Brokers released a cache of tools, including EternalBlue, which was then used in the WannaCry ransomware. The group alluded that because they posted a screenshot with the content of some of their hacking tools, the NSA realized what they lost and informed Microsoft of the zero-days.

Even though the crooks behind the real WannaCry infection are still unknown, one thing is certain and this is the fact that Shadow Brokers stole the malware from the NSA. And precisely 28 days after that, the Shadow Brokers published EternalBlue, DoublePulsar, and dozens more hacking tools.

They were easy to be exploited because they were not getting regular security patches from Microsoft automatically. The NSA supposedly realized what the Shadow Brokers had and told Microsoft. The possible targets include Microsoft's Windows 10, which was unaffected by the initial attack and is on at least 500m devices around the world.

Bus overturns on Interstate 95 in northeastern Maryland
Other passengers suffered minor cuts, scrapes and bruises, and were taken to the hospital by ambulance or evaluated at the scene. The crash took place around 9:30 a.m., closing all lanes of I-95 in both directions, the Maryland Transportation Authority said.

The tools and software exploits have been made generally available to both cybercriminals and security-inclined hackers, including the researcher who helped to disrupt the ransomware's spread.

The announcement comes on the heels of a very virulent ransomware outbreak that has used one of the exploits previously leaked by the group.

The Shadow Brokers' first dump of exploits in August sparked a robust discussion within the Obama administration.

Calling themselves the Shadow Brokers, the group first appeared in 2016 claiming that they had access to 75% of the United States cyber arsenal, which they offered to auction to the highest bidder. Despite Microsoft having already patched the vulnerabilities, the firm released a patch in March, a month before the Shadow Brokers leaked the EternalBlue, among other exploits; cybercriminals repurposed the exploit and unleashed devastating attacks across the globe on 12 May. What members doing with data after is up to members.

The Shadow Brokers are threatening to make public more of the exploits and tools that they have access to, thanks to the NSA hack.

The group also promised to include compromised financial data from the SWIFT global payment order system, used by banks to transfer trillions of dollars each day, as well as confidential data from several central banks.
